The Streets of Stockton will again be filled with the Nation’s best cyclist racing for prestigious victory in the Stockton Velo29-Altura Town Centre Races. Part of the 3 day Stockton Cycling Festival, the Town Centre Races are great to watch with these pro riders lapping the tight 1km circuit in under 2 minutes per lap. The action literally never stops.
In 2012 Tobyn Horton (Team Raleigh) was winner by default of a tight bunch sprint of rain soaked cobbled roads with Graham Briggs in 2nd and Scott Thwaites 3rd. In 2013 George Atkins (100% ME) was a deserving winner lapping nearly all of the field with Ed Clancy in 2nd place and Graham Briggs again in 3rd. George crossed the line alone with his arms in the air, he went on to win the 2013 series, part of an impressive season for the young Olympic Development Squad rider. George again was the winner in 2014 on a circuit modified to account for the Town’s regeneration works.
The fast and challenging 1km Town Centre circuit is currently under revision due to the ongoing redevelopment of Stockton Town Centre. For sure though we will include the cobbled section, the fast long High Street and sweeping corner as well as the long finishing straight to give spectators a great view of the action.
Full route details and event manual coming shortly.
