Buttertubs Short Profile

Buttertubs Short 3D View

The Buttertubs short route at just 50.7km and with 322m of climbing is one of the least challenging of the Velo29 routes. This makes it a great introduction to riding a Sportive or perhaps for those who have family/ friends riding the longer routes it’s an opportunity to “tag along” and enjoy the full Velo29 Sportive experience.
We leave the HQ and straight away we are on quiet country lanes. The route twists on small roads towards the lovely Village Green of Scorton where we part company with the medium and long route riders.
Here we head almost directly South towards Northallerton, the road is a little bigger but again it’s quiet and not too many cars.
The route passes Kiplin Hall on our right and as we approach Northallerton we turn left about 1km before the busy Market Town.
We then head North on some of our old favourite training roads, these are really quiet and pleasant, quite flat too. They remind us of North Belgium and the Flanders region where some great racing takes place!
The feed is located in a small lay-by just past Great Langton which is reached after 21 km. From there we continue South towards Northallerton but making a sharp left before the Town to head North and back towards Darlington.
Soon we approach East Cowton and the end is in sight. Back up the road we started on and into the HQ for the dash over the finish line!
Most the climbing is made up of undulating roads, there are no significant climbs on this route. It’s a little bumpy on the section from Scorton to Northallerton, the final 10 miles are really quite flat. It’s a perfect route to progress into Sportive riding.
