The biggest early season classic, the Cheshire Cat Long route! Have you done it before? Have you got a time to beat? A score to settle….
This beast of a route gives you plenty of opportunity to warm up those legs before hitting the climbs, the first of which is the Killer Mile of Mow Cop itself, one of the 100 toughest climbs in the UK, starting from the level crossing at the bottom all the way up to Mow Cop Castle itself. The route continues to undulate through the hills for a further 25 miles, taking in classic local climbs out of Meerbrook and Barlow Hill in Winkle.
If this isn’t enough, there’s still another 63 miles to go if your legs are strong enough to last the distance, rolling through the Cheshire countryside and forested areas of Delamere Forest before finally returning you to the regal surroundings of Queens Park where you will find a post event village, offering a massage for those tortured muscles, hot food and a choice of quality draught beers.
There is no better way to start the tough season ahead.
