There is no such thing as an easy long route with Velo29 and the 111 mile option in GYS is no exception. Consider the event 3 sectors, all of roughly 60km each. Sector 1, the intro! We roll out North towards Pickering and the outdoor feed at Kirby Misperton. Nothing too dramatic other than some lumps in the Howardian Hills which you long route guys will fast dispense.
After the feed, we hit sector 2 and this is 50km of up and down like only North Yorkshire can give! We go up and down through the Valley in the direction of Rosedale where we turn right and tackle the Heygate Bank. Never used by Velo29 before, it’s a gem! We remain high where the wind will be a factor, over 300m for a good 10km before a stunning descent into Egton Bridge at only 47m above sea level. We then enjoy 20km without a flat metre! It’s a real sharks tooth of a section before descending to Pickering for the 2nd feed stop again at Kirby Misperton.
From then, sector 3 takes us South, back over the Howardian Hills direction York. Nothing too serious, the work is done and it’s speed we are looking for here. 40km of delightful flats, finish the Sportive season at high speed!
