GYRO Challenger Profile

GNAAS Yearly Ride Out – Challenger route 75.9miles (122.6km)

As an alternative to the base to base challenge, riders will also be able to choose to take on the ‘challenger’ route. Whilst shorter it is still enough to challenge even experienced riders and just like the B2BC route it features tough climbs that are rewarded with quiet rolling roads through epic scenery.

Both rides will depart from the same location (Teesside airbase) and follow the same route out through Teesdale to the historic town of Barnard Castle. It is at this point the ride will split as the challenger route heads along quiet roads for the imposing climb over ‘The Stang’. This famous climb tops out at 20% and will be a real test of legs and lungs but once conquered riders are rewarded with a real gem of a descent into the Swaldale valley and the picturesque town of Reeth. This area was used on the 2014 Tour De France ‘Grand Depart’ and will be used again for the 2019 UCI Road World Championships … with that record you know you are in for a treat!

The final leg of the route heads towards Richmond and with only a few ‘updulations’ remaining riders will soon be able to see Teesside in the distance as they head for home and a hero’s welcome on quiet scenic roads…
