The short route is offered to give those who feel the 102 miles too much of a challenge but still wish to be part of the Tour Buzz. However it’s a challenging route, taking in much of the long route and the Tour day 1 stage plus there is a stinker of a climb out of Lofthouse!
You’ll depart Ripon Race Course with the long route riders and head through the historic City of Ripon before quickly joining the near car free roads of Studley Park, where we’ve got special permission to ride through! We then head onto Brimham Rocks, some amazing sites and our photographers will be waiting to get some great images.
It’s lumpy from there on to Pateley Bridge then a nice few flat miles around Gothwaite Reservoir before the climb from lofthouse.
This is the only KOM section on the short route, however the 3.2km and 273m of ascent over an average of 6% will really challenge any rider. There is no shame in pushing! The views at the top are stunning and looking down onto the Yorkshire Moors is a sight you will not forget.
From Lofthouse it’s one long fast decent down to Masham, 13.1km and a drop of 351m. The roads are amazing and with the 100’s of other short route riders it’s a very special occasion.
From Masham back to Ripon it’s mostly flat with a few lumps and a rewarding rest at the finish in Ripon.
