A wonderful blend of fast twisting Country Roads on the York to Leeds section mixed with a beast of a climb, some wonderful descents and the bonus of the fantastic scenery around Swinsty and the famous Almscliff Crag.
At over 90 miles it’s a long ride for the time of year so make sure you start close to 08:00 to make most of the available day light. It’s a ride the experienced rider will enjoy as the mix of fast roads with all the hills thrown in the middle makes it a route which you’ll achieve a higher than usual average speed on.
The Feed Station at Harewood House is our most grand! It’s also the point at which you’ll say goodbye to the medium route riders. We ride along the River Wharfe towards Otley then head North and over the locally well-known Weston Moor Climb. It’s a really tough one and popular with a lot of the Elite Riders who train in the area.
The route stays high on the Moor before dropping to Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs where we enjoy stunning rides over the Dam walls. It’s a beautiful route through the trees and by the water. We then climb back up to Almscliff Crag, a feature we’ve hoped to include in a Sportive for many years.
From there we descend to join the Medium Route riders and head home across near flat roads with most likely a tail wind!
