The medium route is for those who are looking to challenge themselves or the more experienced rider wanting a shorter day out. You will need some cycling experience to complete the ride but for those wanting to push themselves, you will feel that you have really accomplished something.
Leave Stockton Riverside onto a closed dual carriageway, motor cycles will escort you out of Stockton, speeding through the red lights with flashing lights and horns you will feel like a Tour de France star! We head through Urban Ingelby and are on soon enjoying the quiet roads of Hilton and Seamer as we ride towards Great Ayton. There are a few drags but nothing too challenging.
Heading through Ayton and then up towards Captain Cooks we are soon at the start of the first major climb. It’s short and steep with a tight hairpin reaching 33%. Many walk up, there is no shame in that! The climb comes in 2 stages, there is a nice recently resurfaced section to recover on before the 2nd section which is 25%. The descent is fast and technical, take care over the cattle grid which we’ll mention in the rider briefing.
At the bottom of the descent you’ll reach Kildale and the feed station before heading out further into the North Yorks Moors. There are 3 more climbs to tackle before coming back to the feed station at Kildale for a 2nd time them heading home, mostly flat miles back to Stockton.
It’s a great day out for all abilities and a nice stepping stone to the longer Velo29 Sportive Routes.
