From PNE, the medium route stays with the long route until after the first feed stop at Abbeystead. This 27miles is ‘rolling’ with an elevation of just below 2000ft as you skirt the edge of the Forest of Bowland passing through the lovely villages of Inglewhite, Calder Vale and Okenclough. On the climbs be sure to keep looking left as you may glimpse the famous Blackpool Tower amid the fantastic views over to the Lancashire coastline.
NOW Get ready! because after your feed the medium route tackles the famous climb of The Trough of Bowland before re-joining the other routes and making your way to the next climb of Nick ‘O Pendle. Now all the routes drop down into Whalley where you will stop for another impressive feed station and with less than 18miles to go you will be fuelled enough for the flat run back into Preston.
