As with all Velo29 Sportives, the Long really is a case of MILES = SMILES. All 3 routes in La Roue are fab so the more miles you do, the more of this great Sportive you get to encounter.

We ride out with The Medium and Short riders until they reach their split points along the way, will you catch them on Hope Mountain later in the day?

You’ll notice that the profile really isn’t vicious, some bergs of course but this is not meant to be a brutal day out, more an opportunity to enjoy some awesome new parts of the World with us. We head South into Wales and navigate around The Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve which is stunning and the home of feed stop number 1! Only 2 feeds on this shorter-than-usual Long route but both are well stocked as always. At both Whixall Feed 1 and Gresford Feed 2 you’ll find a wonderful selection of fresh Sarnies, Pork Pies, Sausage Rolls, our Famous Brownies and recently changed (for the better) Flapjack! A hot brew and as much High5 as you can handle too!

From Feed 1 towards Feed 2 we dance between England and Wales, the route literally follows the border until we reach Overton and rejoin the Medium Route riders. From there we head to Feed 2 and then back towards Cheshire at which point we encounter Hope Mountain! Just over 300m high with a few switchback turns, it’s an exciting climb! The views at the top of Waun-Y-Llyn Country Park are stunning, so worth the effort! From there it’s an enjoyable descent towards Pontlyddyn and back to Cheshire to receive a great medal, a Hot BBQ Sausage bun and a chilled can of Erdinger Alkoholfrei.
