From Preston college, the long route stays with the medium route until after the first feed stop at Abbeystead. This 27miles is ‘rolling’ with an elevation of just below 2000ft as you skirt the edge of the Forest of Bowland passing through the lovely villages of Inglewhite, Calder Vale and Okenclough On the climbs be sure to keep looking left as you may glimpse the famous Blackpool Tower amid the fantastic views over to the Lancashire coastline.
After the split, the long route heads north toward Lancaster before turning east with views over to Cumbria. At 48miles the amazing climb of Cross ‘O Greet awaits you, a height gain of 1,000ft taking us to the high point of the event at 1600ft. From here you will descend and re-join the other routes en-route to the next climb of Nick ‘O Pendle. We then drop down into Whalley where you will stop for another impressive feed station and with less than 18miles to go you will be fuelled enough for the flat run back into Preston.
