The ALL NEW Strade Medium Route!
What a Medium route this is!
Mountains, scenery, riding along a river, car-free roads, great feed stops and all in a totally new part of the World for Velo29!
It’s a tough route, make no mistake! One of the toughest parts comes in the first 10km, the ‘soon to be much discussed’ climb of Esclusham Mountain. At 4km the road points UP and it continues to do so, mostly quite steep until 10km! We rise from 90m to 450m in 6km, one of the longest climbs in the Sportive Series and reaching one of the highest points!
From the top of Esclusham Mountain, we descend to the first feed stop at Llangollen which is an option to cut the ride short and follow the River Dee back to Wrexham with the short route riders. However, it would be a shame to do so as the Medium route loop is stunning, challenging but stunning!
Depart the feed but don’t eat too much as the road goes rapidly up again as we climb Moel y Gamelin, which is the steepest ascent on the ride! From there it’s a glorious lumpy (but mostly downhill) ride back to the feed stop at Llangollen where more fresh food, a hot brew and as much High5 as you can handle await!
We say goodbye to the Long riders at this 2nd feed but of course, if you’re feeling great you can always go long, just tell us at the finish and we can take payment for the upgrade.
The ride back to Wrexham isn’t too tough, with some upwards lumps before a rapid descent down to Wrexham where an awesome medal, post-ride beer and hot BBQ sausage await!
If you know our events then you know what to expect, great signage, food, support and a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere!
