The new Ronde Yorkshire Short route isn’t all that short! At 65km and nearly 1,000m of vert, it is the toughest Short route in the 2023 Sportive Series. From Stokesley, we tackle Clay Bank within the first 10km, an Alpine-style climb, one of our favourites. The first 200m of climbing is the toughest, after that, it settles to a 10% or less gradient, and the surface is good so you can crack on. From the top of Clay, it’s an enjoyable descent into Bilsdale where we enjoy lumpy roads towards the next climb of the day, Newgate Bank. It’s a climb that comes in sections, steep then easier, then step again! From the top, it’s a gentle descent to the feed stop. From there we head into one of our favourite parts of Yorkshire, the road from Hawnby to Osmotherley then down to Swainby is an absolute delight! It’s almost flat all the way back from Cod Beck to the Stokesley HQ for a beer, BBQ snack and awesome medal!
