The Velo29 Everest Challenge started as a World Record attempt, but now that we have that record, the event has evolved to be more about personal achievement in a supported Everest.
Closed roads, the perfect hill, a brilliant group and the excellent support of Velo29.
Everesting is a brutally simple concept – cycle repeat climbs of one hill in a single activity, totalling at least 8,848m of elevation and join the elite group of riders accredited by Hells500 – holders of the Everesting Hall of Fame.
As always, we aim to make the event as inclusive as possible, so we are offering a Base Camp option, full Everest, 10,000m and NEW FOR 2026, a TEAM CHALLENGE! Enter as teams of 2, 3 or 4, ride in a group or a relay or whatever suits until you’ve collectively achieved an Everest or 10k!
Due to logistics, the event is limited to 150 riders, so sign up soon.
Everyone who has taken part has declared it the toughest but most amazing event they have done. Velo29’s support offered all that you need to get through the ultimate challenge!

Everest 2026 offers entrants the opportunity to achieve an Everest with the best possible support.
The location is Peaslows hill just north of Buxton, which Andy van Bergen, Everesting founder of Hells500, advised us is almost the perfect hill in terms of length and elevation. We also chose this location for ease of access to entrants from across the UK.
The climb is known as Peaslows, 1.3km long, not too steep, a bit of a ramp in the middle. Flattens towards the top.
The event will run on closed roads, you start at 5am and must be done by 22:00, giving you 17 hours to complete the challenge.
As well as chip timing, there will be a feed station, medical and mechanical support and a fantastic medal, specific to Base Camp, Everest or 10k. Event jerseys are available for order or for sale on the day.
We are limiting this amazing fully supported Everesting event to 150 riders on safety grounds, so sign up early to avoid disappointment.
World Record Story
June 4th 2023, 77 riders took to the start line, it was an amazing day with some epic and heroic battles on Peaslows. However, we didn’t make it, 45 riders completed an Everest. 10 short of the record.
9th June 2024 we were back on Peaslows in brutally wet conditions but with a strong wind blowing UP the hill! 86 riders took to the line and battled on in tough conditions. All day we were right in the balance of taking the record but around 18:00 it became apparetn that we’d be at least 2 riders short! So close yet so far!
June 8th 2025, 3rd time lucky we made it! Velo29 and all the amazing riders who took to the line managed to finally snatch the record! 59 riders completed thier Everest, it was an amazing day that we will never forget!
