Start and finish inside the Riverside Stadium, right next to the tunnel! We’ll line all the riders up right next to where the dugout is, what a start to a great day of cycling!
The long route gets to enjoy a huge amount of what Teesside and Yorkshire has to offer. An urban start past the Old Town Clock, along to the Transporter Bridge and then onto the River Tees Cycle Path. When then head towards North Yorkshire, soon we are on Country roads, little villages and amazing hills and moorland which Yorkshire is famous for.
We visit Kildale feed stop twice on the long route. The first stop is your breakfast feed. Pastries, bananas, cereal bars and a Yorkshire brew!
From Kildale onwards this long route gets serious! Hills come pretty much 1 after another, it’s a testing route but the rewards are big, from the top of all these hills Yorkshire looks amazing. Egton climb is pretty special, you’ll be telling us about that on the finish line!
The summer has a really unique feel to it, the moorland is stunning, even the smells are memorable as we twist and turn our way through some of the beast roads around!
Soon we reach the great feed stop at Cropton where you’ll enjoy our local brownies and flapjack (York), Pork Pies and Sausage Rolls (Kippax, Leeds), Fresh Sarnies (York), a Yorkshire Brew and as much High 5 as you can get into your pockets! A FULL FAT Feed as we call it!
Feed 2 (Cropton) onto Feed 3 (Kildale) is more serious and rewarding miles, we’ve been super kind and not sent you up The Chimney, of course it’s there as an option which no one will take 😊
We love the climb out of Rosedale to Ralph’s Cross and then it’s the super-fast descent into Westerdale. This is the first hill a 15 year old Richard exceeded 50mph. N.B. he was an experienced descender at this time so please ride to your limits. We’ve then got the Water Splash and Hob Hole, bridge or slippery cobbles? Hob Hole is the last ‘proper climb’ before we are back in Kildale for another FULL FAT Feed.
After Kildale we head back towards the Riverside, again on a mix of stunning Yorkshire and dramatic Urban roads. To finish we ride into the Riverside Stadium and back to Michal Carrick’s seat to receive your medal, a hot BBQ sausage bun (Kippax) and a chilled can of Erdinger Alkoholfrei. An amazing day out for any cyclist!
