No Short route option on the Pennines so this Medium route at 67km and 1,100m of climbing is as gentle as it gets!
The first 10km push quite gently upwards, nothing too challenging until we rocket down into Hamsterley Forest and then the short sharp ramp back out.
We reach the feed stop at Stanhope after 23km, have a good rest here as we are about to tackle the vicious Unthank Bank which features in the Official UK Top 100 climbs! Without much respite, we then tackle Bollihope Common which is the highest point of the route at 510m. From there it’s 20km of downhill though all the way back to the HQ at Barnard Castle.
A great ride and don’t be put off by the climbs as if tackled with the correct gear and in no rush, you’ll make it!
