A Beginner’s Guide to Sportive Riding
What to Expect in a Velo29 Sportive
Tents, camper vans and caravans are all welcome to join us for free on the event site on Friday and Saturday night! Email events@velo29.com to confirm your place. Showers, toilets, coffee van all available. N.B. Oakham facilities are a short walk.
The Tour of Rutland is a unique event offering riders the opportunity to experience life as a tour rider.
The 2 Day, 3 stage Tour starts with the option of bringing your own tent, teepee or camper on the Friday night.
Stage 1 on Saturday morning is likely to be the most exciting part for those who take part – a 15.9km Prologue Time Trail! Roll down the start ramp and race against the clock on this undulating but fast ALL NEW FOR 2024 circuit!
Stage 2 on Saturday afternoon is a stunning 92km Sportive around Rutland Water and into some of the UK’s most unique roads. The scenery is stunning throughout this undulating afternoon ride.
We’ve learnt from 3 Days in Yorkshire that getting together is a huge part of this event. The atmosphere on-site makes the weekend by sharing experiences, funny stories, and the anticipation of the day ahead. All of the family join in! We’d love you to bring the children and partners as it makes the weekend.
Stage 3 on Sunday is a challenging 100 mile route, again undulating! No mountains but a total vert of 1,474m which isn’t insignificant. The route is a splendid figure of 8 and we’ve really put some miles in to crack this one! We twist and turn through what has got to be one of the most amazing parts of the UK. Villages, castles, lanes, lakes, fast sections, bergs…..Stage 3 has everything!
Finally, back to Oakham to receive an awesome medal, presented on the finish line and then head home an accredited tour rider!
