A Beginner’s Guide to Sportive Riding
What to Expect in a Velo29 Sportive
The Tour of Rutland 2 day is an amazing new event for the 2023 calendar.
Velo29 launched 3 days in Yorkshire back in 2021 which was an instant success, The Tour of Rutland will have everything we offer in Yorkshire on an amazing new route!
The 2 Day, 3 stage Tour starts with optional bring your own tent/ tepee camping on the Friday night.
Stage 1 on Saturday morning is likely to be the most exciting part of 2023 for those who take part, a 15km Prologue Time Trail! Roll down the start ramp and race against the clock on this undulating but fast left turn-only circuit!
Stage 2 on Saturday afternoon is a stunning 92km Sportive around Rutland Water and into some of the UK’s most unique roads. The scenery is stunning throughout this undulating afternoon ride.
Back to the Oakham Show Ground HQ for a rider presentation, all riders have the opportunity to take to the stage, sign and participant board and chat with Carl Lawrenson about the experiences of day 1. We then have an interview with the event organisers before moving on to a live chat with the Professional Team Boompods Female Race Team, some of whom will be riding the event! The evening continues with a hearty meal and drinks (in moderation) before retiring for the night.
We’ve learnt from 3 Days in Yorkshire that the evenings are a huge part of this event, the atmosphere on-site makes the weekend. Sharing experiences, funny stories, and the anticipation of the day ahead. All of the family join in! We’d love you to bring the children and partners as it makes the weekend.
Stage 3 on Sunday is a challenging 100 mile route, again undulating! No mountains but a total vert of 1,474m which isn’t insignificant. The route is a splendid figure of 8 and we’ve really put some miles in to crack this one! We twist and turn through what has got to be one of the most amazing parts of the UK. Villages, castles, lanes, lakes, fast sections, bergs…..Stage 3 has everything!
Back to Oakham to receive an awesome medal, presented on the stage and then head home an accredited tour rider!
