Fancy the ULTIMATE early-season challenge? If the answer is yes then the Manchester Sheffield Manchester (The Stockport Sportive) long route is for you. You will not be disappointed if you like big climbs, amazing scenery and great grub.
You will split from the Medium & Short routes early on and tackle the Higher Lane Climb before heading through Kettleshulme & Buxton. Shortly after the first feed at 35miles in Glossop serving award-winning pork pies along with sausage rolls, flapjack, brownies and High5 energy products you will encounter Snake Pass which is a classic ‘Alpine’ style climb. Long, steady and very little variation in gradient. You can do the climb in the same gear all the way up; it is also a climb where you can sit in the saddle for the whole duration of the 3.3miles at 6% average.
From here you will descend into Sheffield where you will have another fabulous feed station at the famous Hillsborough Stadium home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. From here challenging climbs and super descents await as you rejoin the medium route winding your way past the Langsett Reservoir and onto Carlcotes. From here the gradients ease slightly as we head to Glossop for a second well deserved feed then onto the final 12miles back into Stockport where you will have certainly earned your medal.
