A Beginner’s Guide to Sportive Riding
What to Expect in a Velo29 Sportive
Great New Routes For 2024!
Having delivered the event once we’ve worked to make all 3 routes even better! We’ve totally changed the Medium and Long run-in from Sherburn and removed all the urban toil. For Short/ Medium/ Long we’ve managed to spread the feed stops out a little more and we’ve tweaked the first 20 miles to find some more hidden little roads, which are more quiet and less urban.
We think these routes are great and allow us to continue to use the brilliant Pontefract RUFC as an HQ.
The Prince of Wales Hospice provides palliative care and support for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Without public support, hospice care wouldn’t be possible.
The Prince of Wales Hospice Cyclothon is one of the longest standing fund raising events. Always a successful event with upwards of 600 riders taking part over the years.
The pandemic lost some momentum in the event and the POW Event Team saw the success of the Velo29/ Selby Three Swans Yorkshire Cancer Research relationship and approached Velo29 as a reputable, experienced organiser in the area. Velo29 are delighted to step in to continue this important event pairing our expertise with the support of Prince of Wales Hospice.
We’ve made a few changes to the routes previous riders of the Cyclothon will have known, we have a Velo29 way of doing things, we hope you’ll love the new routes!
The 3 main routes are a delight, even though sandwiched between Leeds and Doncaster and cut by the A1M and M62! We’ve really had to work hard to get the Velo29 route spec here, we are sure you’ll agree on the day it’s paid off!
New for 2023 we have the Velo29 City ride. This series of rides are designed to get new people into Sportive riding. Shorter than our usual rides but all the great fun you’d expect with Velo29.
20% of your entry fee (excluding booking fee) will go to The Prince of Wales Hospice. You are of course welcome to fundraise and donate further to the charity if you wish – we’d love to hear your stories on that.
