Ride Yorkshire Long has everything you’d expect from a Velo29 Sportive! Glorious routes, twisting and turning through villages and fields, car-free where possible and of course, hills!
At 2,421m vert it’s a tough one, make no mistake. The first serious challenge comes at Lofthouse after 30km, it’s a tough climb with a really exciting descent. We enjoy some wonderful views of the Dales from the top before speeding down to the reservoir at the bottom. Onto Fountains Abbey and then into Sawley Village Hall for a famous Velo29 well-stocked feed stop. Oh yes, don’t forget the climb out of Wath on the way!
After feed 1 we join the 2nd part of the figure of 8, heading clockwise towards Ripley Castle. We pass Fewston and Linley reservoirs then on to Bludderhouses before we climb Greenhow. Greenhow heading North is a not too steep but rather long climb. Enjoy! After Greenhow, it’s blast downhill with only a few lumps before we arrive back at Sawley for the 3rd and final feed.
From Sawley it’s downhill for 30km all the way back to the Finish line in Thirsk for an awesome finishers medal, an Erdinger alkoholfrei and a hot BBQ sausage bun!
