Make no mistake, the long is a BIG day out on the bike! All the way out to the Buttertubs, approaching from Hawes which we think is the harder climb! On the way, we take in some lovely roads, of course, twisting and turning through Yorkshire with a wonderful breakfast feed at Thornton Watlass then onto Askrigg for feed 2, one of Velo29’s infamous FULL Feeds. Sarnies, brownies from Pocklington, Pies and Sausage Rolls from Kippax and as much High 5 as you can eat! Also, a brew which of course comes from Yorkshire!
Eat well as the Tubs are just around the corner! The descent from the Tubs is worth it, fast and last for miles! Worth the chuffing hill……probably! We call in to see our good friend Stu at the Dales Bike Centre, or DBC as we call it. High5, water and Super Stu’s great support here. It’s not a feed manned by Velo29 but Stu has everything you might need to help you out! Make sure you make DBC a regular on your rides!
From DBC we head over Grinton Moor, apologies for this one in advance! It’s tough and don’t be mistaken when you see the YHA, it looks like the top but it’s not! After Grinton it’s a rapid descent to Leyburn and the end is now in sight. 1 more FULL Feed at Thornton Watlass then 20 more miles home to Thirsk Racecourse for your well-earned medal!
